(Mauricio Rubio Jr. | Canon Mk ii | Hinsdale Il.)
This is from the same event as yesterday but it’s a completely different story. Leslie Moneka is walking in her great aunt’s shoes in the literal sense. Eunice Wickstrom, nicknamed “Wicky,” cared a lot for animals. She participated in the Hinsdale Pet Walk for over 22 years, well into her 90’s. She passed in January. Leslie is keeping her memory alive. She did the walk on Sunday in these shoes, which believe it or not belonged to “Wicky.” When I was told of the story I was not expecting these to be the shoes of a 95 year old woman. From all accounts Eunice was an amazing woman, and when I had to ask the question “What does it mean to you to do this walk in memory of her,” Leslie and her mother broke down. It’s an amazing thing Leslie did, and my pictures nor my words can’t really do it justice.
